Everyday of our life Month
November is upon us and as the leaves turn to beautiful shades of red and gold..wait…Who am I kidding!! I live in southern California and we just had days last week in the 100’s still lol, our leaves haven’t changed yet. Normally November would be full of me thinking about Thanksgiving and starting all of my Christmas shopping, but this year is very different for us. This will be our first holiday season since my sons’s Type 1 Diabetes diagnosis over 8 months ago and my first November knowing about National Diabetes Awareness month! My how times change..
This Type 1 journey our family has been on has been a difficult one but filled with purpose. I don’t think that I have ever in my life felt so passionate about anything before. I wake up with a feeling like today is the day I make a difference! I go to bed thinking about how I’m going to try to do it again tomorrow. I don’t know for sure that I’m making a dent in this world for awareness about type 1 or that the funds I’m trying to raise for cure are actually going to get us that miracle, but what I do know is that I’m going to try and not give up! Every finger prick, every low blood sugar episode, every time I have to pierce my child’s skin with a needle to deliver life saving insulin..that is my reason for working so hard on getting the world to pay attention to this disease. We need a cure and until then, we need awareness for safety, for understanding, for compassion, and for fundraising so that maybe one day a cure will be discovered.
Things We Can Do To Raise Awareness
-post in your community bulletins online a symptoms list
-wear Type 1 apparel (preferably Greater Than haha)
-rock your Greater Than 1 car DECAL! You’d be surprised how many people see it and either ask you about it or go look up what it means
-paint rocks with Type 1 on them and hide them in your community! FUTURE POST COMING ABOUT THIS! STAY TUNED!
-Do the GREATER THAN CHALLENGE BELOW!!
THIS IS OUR MONTH GUYS!! LET’S MAKE IT COUNT!
I’ve compiled a list of challenges for everyone to complete for this months’ Diabetes Awareness. There are 30 items and each number corresponds to the date of the month. Post a picture or story for the topic listed and make sure to tag us.Let’s make our voices heard and get the attention that Type 1 deserves. Together we are Greater Than One!
